KU-WISE is hosting a presentation on Materials of Construction, led by Berlyn Mellein of the Shiflett Research Group, on March 25th from 9-10 am in the Slawson Hall G192 Beren Petroleum Conference Center. Whether you're in a lab, classroom, workplace, or any shared environment, safety is always our top priority! Join us for an open and in-depth discussion of Materials of Construction. In-person and virtual Zoom options are available for attending.

Materials of Construction refer to the materials used for equipment and facilities of chemical processes, comprising production, handling, transportation, and storage. Primary considerations for material determination are chemical compatibility, operating conditions, and process requirements.  The selection of appropriate materials includes assessment of safety, economic costs, and process/product quality. This safety meeting will give an overview of the topic: types of materials, chemical and process compatibility, and how to select appropriate materials of construction.  The focus will be on laboratory experiments and processes.

In addition to our regular presentation, this meeting will also include guest Roberta Pokphanh, Associate Vice Provost of KU International Affairs. At the beginning of the Safety Meeting, she will share resources for international students and answer questions related to federal immigration enforcement and safety on campus.
