Newsletter Submission Process

Since we have transitioned to an updated format for the SoE Newsletter, the process for submitting events and news items has changed. This change will make the newsletter more visually appealing and streamline the submission process.  Below are instructions.

Events
You will no longer submit events using a form.
Simply add your events in the Engineering Connector and they will automatically be included in the newsletter.

Nominate your favorite Undergraduate Educator and Undergraduate Advisor for the Gould Excellence Awards
Engineering Student Council seeks nominations for the Gould Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Educator and Outstanding Undergraduate Mentor. These two awards are presented during the spring engineering recognition ceremony. Each winner receives $4,000 in recognition of their service. Submit your nominations by Friday, April 19. Only undergraduate students can access this form.

Review Study Abroad Options Through the Fulbright U.S. Student Program
Students interested in spending a year abroad teaching English, conducting independent research, or pursuing a graduate degree are encouraged to consider the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, a fully-funded opportunity for U.S. citizens who will have a completed bachelor’s degree at the time their Fulbright grant begins. Current juniors who will graduate in spring 2025, as well as all graduate students, are encouraged to apply this fall. There is an upcoming virtual session about the program at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 16 (register here). There is also an in-person session set for 4 p.m. Monday, April 22, in Strong Hall room 307. KU’s campus deadline to apply is Sept. 4.

Kansas Blockchain Institute Announces Summer Fellowship Program
The Kansas Blockchain Institute is sponsoring a seven-week experiential learning-intensive, scholarship program and talent incubator, known as the Kansas Blockchain Fellowship. The program is tailored for students in the Midwest and provides in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in blockchain, digital assets and web3, equipping participants for industry roles. The Fellowship includes classes from 7-9 p.m. each Thursday from June 11 to July 23. The deadline to apply is 11:59 p.m. Friday, April  24.

Scholarships/Fellowships

American Council of Engineering Companies Spring Scholarships Application Available

The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Research Institute scholarship portal directs qualified students to more than 100 scholarships totaling nearly $1 million. This includes a $5,000 grant specifically designated for students from Kansas, scholarships for underserved students, as well as merit and need-based opportunities. The ACEC portal will automatically match students with all scholarships available to them based on their completed application. Application deadlines vary, so ACEC encourages students to apply today at acecinstitute.awardspring.com

3M Rise Symposium Applications Open

The 5th annual 3M RISE (Raising Influence in Science and Engineering) Symposium is accepting applications. This is a virtual event that will be hosted Aug.19-21. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, May 1. The symposium introduces emerging underserved doctoral students in science and engineering to the wide range of rewarding careers in research and development at 3M. Ideal applicants are expected to complete their graduate degree appointment within 24 months of the RISE event. Applicants from any STEM field are welcome. RISE Application: 3M RISE Application. Postdoctoral Fellowships 

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Laboratory Visiting Scientist Program is offering postdoctoral fellowships for recent graduates. Applicants with education and experience in similar or related fields in physics, mathematics and statistics, engineering, or similar, are also encouraged to apply. See the website for more details.

Engineering Lost and Found Located in LEEP2, Room 1415 LEEP2

KU Engineering lost and found is located behind the front desk in LEEP2, room1415. This is where students should take items found at the engineering complex and where they should look for items they’ve lost. Building Complex Manager Nathan Fortner is the contact for anyone with questions about the engineering lost and found.
