Conference Committee is tasked with hosting an annual EFx® conference that fosters a community of students and early career engineers focused on developing their skills and sharing their experiences. Our conference hosts competitions that put participants’ knowledge to the test, networking events to learn about each other’s experience, and workshops that improve soft skills and hard skills.
Technical Division Committee produces events such as CAD workshops and RC car modification projects that offer our members the opportunity to apply their engineering knowledge and collaboration skills. Furthermore, the committee invites accomplished engineers and researchers to offer insight into the latest developments in the field of mechanical engineering.

Engineers Without Borders is a service organization dedicated to providing engineering solutions to improve the quality of life for others. We also allow students to get hands-on engineering, project management, and teamwork experience.

We do that locally by volunteering in the Lawrence and Kansas City area. We do that nationally by assisting in disaster relief efforts. We do that internationally with our water resource and sanitation projects around the world.

Membership Benefits
Students interested in volunteering and getting project experience can work on a wide range of projects right from the start of their participation. Students are also able to travel locally, domestically, and globally for engineering projects with less financial demand and time commitment than a study abroad. Many students from all over the country come to The School of Engineering at KU every year to be a part of Jayhawk Motorsports. Each year, cross-disciplinary teams build vehicles to take to international competitions against other universities. The vehicles are judged on a wide variety of criteria such a design, performance, and marketing. Students gain experience in project management, design, manufacturing, testing and perhaps most importantly, teamwork. Jayhawk Motorsports is a well known name in these competitions and we are working to continue that legacy. We constantly encourage all students from different academic backgrounds to get involved with our organization in any way they can. Since JMS has no membership fees, students are encouraged to come whenever their schedule allows and apply the engineering methods we learn in class to a real-life scenario.

KURO also provides training to its members. This includes basic topics such as programming, soldering, CAD, and 3D printing. Certain projects also provide members with specific training for their project.

The goal of our team is to provide a space for students to experience a structural design project that requires deeper understanding of structural engineering Codes and design. The steel bridge our team designs requires a design process which involves a deep dive into the current design codes. Once design is completed students will get hands on fabrication experience cutting, machining, and welding steel to construct the bridge for competition. A competition team will be selected and brought to the ASCE symposium to compete in the AISC SSBC.

The Society of American Military Engineers is designed for networking among different engineering groups at KU and with the professional chapter in Kansas City. The group will provide lectures for professional development and growth. Originally designed to connect private sector with the military sector, the group has now expanded to include non-engineers, and members from other countries. As KU's student chapter of USGBC, we also focus on educating our members on the LEED green building certification process and requirements. We take part in design competitions, sustainable research, professional development opportunities, and other fun green activities! Meetings are held twice a month.
